When exploring communities on The Plateau, it is hard to pass on Cullasaja Club for your dream home destination. Club services are open from May until October, and feature a variety of activities and amenities. Such as a lodge with a bar and several dining areas, numerous fitness programs, and a luxurious spa. Nestled on Cullasaja Ridge surrounding the clubhouse; you will find multiple mountain chalet-inspired homes that are sheltered by majestic evergreen trees, native rhododendron groundcover, and expansive views that go for miles. Step just across Cullasaja Club Drive from the Clubhouse, where members take in a mountain vistas viewing platform that provides vistas that are identical to that of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Cullasaja Club is a private club with limited membership, with 330 members. Membership offers a plethora of renowned amenities. The community is designed around Ravenel Lake and the par-72 championship golf course designed by Arnold Palmer. The community regularly has golf tournaments throughout the season, and seasoned golf pros to keep your skills sharp between rounds. If golf is not your thing, embrace the naturescape at the sitting area coined The “Yacht” club alongside Ravenel Lake and let the kids throw a hook in the water to test their luck! The clubhouse also hosts a number of special events, from wine dinners to holiday celebrations. One of the unique things about Cullasaja Club is they have created a sports bar with their own flair, making it a great place to watch College Gameday!
For those wanting to venture off of the grounds, there are more activities nearby. Go horseback riding on the mountain trails or whitewater rafting down one of the local rivers for an exhilarating adventure. Hikers will love the variety of routes available, from short, simple trails for beginners to try on a hot day to more challenging hikes that span miles and push your body to the limits. Explore my personal favorite, the Whiteside Mountain Hike, an exhilarating loop hike that has been designated a National Recreation Trail and just 10 minutes from Cullasaja Club.
A bit of history, Cullasaja Club was originally developed by the Arvida Corporation in 1987 as an escape from the hot summers of the south. Fast forward to present day, and Cullasaja Club is still a refuge for Summer vacationers looking to make Highlands their second home. Naturally, the community is just two hours north of Atlanta, GA. There are also many direct flights to Atlanta International Airport (2 Hr 45 minutes from Cullasaja Club) and Asheville Regional Airport (1 Hr 27 minutes from Cullasaja Club). This makes this unique Highlands community accessible to many of the major urban markets in the Southeast.
Highlands’ Main Street features a number of small, artisanal shops with a variety of products. Clothing, jewelry, art, and home decor can all be found on the main drag, and residents can finish the day with dinner at one of the fantastic restaurants and a view of the imperial mountains rising up. Whether you opt for a high-end take on pizza at Four65 or want to try Madison’s amazing meatloaf made with local, fresh ingredients, the local cuisine is an amazing treat for the nights when you don’t want to cook. Anyone staying in the Highlands should take the time to visit the Highlands Biological Center and learn about local plant and animal life, such as raccoons, otters, snakes, and black bears. The location of Highlands at 4118 ft elevation and near to numerous river systems makes the area of particular interest to biologists and nature enthusiasts, as it is home to a large amount of biodiversity.
